Paris Shares Update About Personal Health
Stamford Legislator Currently Represents the 145th State House District
STAMFORD — State Representative Corey Paris, who has served the 145th State House District since May 2021, announced that he will have a surgical process to address an underlying health condition.
Paris, the majority caucus chair for the Connecticut House Democrats, commented to the Stamford Current regarding the matter.
“Last week, at the urging of my cardiologist, I underwent a procedure to address a health challenge I've faced over the past year: transient ischemic attacks, or TIAs - commonly known as mini-strokes.
After thorough testing, doctors also discovered a patent foramen ovale (PFO) - a hole in my heart that likely formed before birth and never closed. In consultation with my doctors, I've decided to undergo surgery to address this issue in the coming weeks.”
A transient ischemic attack (TIA), as referenced in the statement, is “a temporary blockage caused by a clot and while usually not harmful” should be taken seriously with medical attention recommended, according to Stamford Hospital.
A patent foramen ovale (PFO) occurs “when there is an opening or ‘hole’ between the two upper chambers of the heart,” and it happens to “about a quarter of the general population.”
The Stamford legislator, who is running for another term in the upcoming November 5 election, expressed his gratitude for the medical professionals helping him and reiterated his focus on the 145th District.
“I want to express my appreciation to the incredible staff at Stamford Health. Their guidance and care during this time were exceptional, as they always are, and I'm proud to represent a district that includes such a world-class healthcare facility.
I remain steadfast in my commitment to serving our community. I am optimistic and I ask for your continued support and prayers as I navigate this health journey.”
Paris is currently vice chair of the Appropriations Committee and is a member of the Education Committee as well as the Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee.
Since March 2024, Paris has worked full-time as Chief Impact Officer at the local nonprofit Person to Person (P2), which helps community members become economically stable.
Paris recently returned from Chicago, where he was a delegate at the 2024 Democratic National Convention last week for Connecticut’s 4th Congressional District.
