STAMFORD — You may be getting mail about the election. Or seeing campaign signs for candidates. Or both. Whether at the national, state, or local level, there is a lot at stake in this election. Here’s what you need to know to do your civic duty right here in Stamford.
Check Your Voter Registration Status
If you are unsure if you are registered to vote or want to register as a voter, you can do so online in Connecticut at voterregistration.ct.gov.
What’s On The Ballot
Before you go vote, it’s important to know what you’re voting on. From president, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, and both chambers of the state legislature to Registrar of Voters, Board of Education, and a ballot question, there are some important decisions to be made. Sample ballots for all of Stamford can be found here.
Note: the ballot is two sides, but the first side for all of them is listed before the second side. So scroll down to view the back of the ballot.
In Stamford, the back includes the Board of Education races and a ballot question to expand voting rights through absentee ballots for all.
Voting By Mail
If you are unable to vote in person due to illness, out of town during the voting dates listed below, or another reason listed here, you can vote by mail.
First, you will need to submit an absentee ballot application. To do that online, click here.
To apply by mail, download, print, and fill out the form in English here or aqui en español.

Early Voting
This year, Connecticut has begun the opportunity of having early voting available and, in the general election happening soon, that includes two whole weeks of days when you can vote early.
There is one location per city or town and, for Stamford, that is the Government Center’s 4th Floor cafeteria. Beginning Monday, October 21, the early voting will continue every day through Sunday, November 3. Here is the full list of days and times.
So every day early voting will be available from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm except for Tuesday, October 29, and Thursday, October 31, when it will be from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.
There will be signs and staff when you walk into the lobby to guide you and make the process easier. While not required, it is recommended that you bring a photo ID and/or a piece of mail with your voter registration address on it.
Find Your Election Day Polling Location
While all early voting will be at the Government Center, your polling location on Tuesday, November 5th, will be your state and federal district instead and not the municipal district.
Polls on Election Day will be open from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm.
