Simmons, Arts and Culture Commission Announce 2024 Grant Recipients
Latest round of funding will support more than two dozen organizations
STAMFORD — On Friday, December 29, 2023, Mayor Caroline Simmons and the Stamford Arts and Culture Commission announced the latest round of winners for the Stamford Arts & Culture (SAC) grant, emphasizing the important role that they play in the city.
“I want to express my gratitude to the Stamford Arts and Culture Commission for their work on these grants,” Simmons said in a press release. “Arts and cultural organizations play an important role in the vibrancy of our city, and the continued diversity of this year’s grants recipients demonstrates the extensive arts and culture scene in Stamford. I look forward to seeing these projects enrich our city.”
Given the city’s lively arts and culture community, the funding was in high demand as nearly thirty grant applications were submitted to the city “with over $300,000 in grant aid requested.”
“The Stamford Art Association is so pleased to be awarded a SAC grant that will be used for free children's art workshops open to all at Mill River Park,” Stamford Art Association President Christine Irvin said.
According to the announcement, “[g]rantees were selected for funding based on their commitment to providing quality programs that are accessible, diverse, and innovative for Stamford residents and add to Stamford’s artistic and cultural scene.”
For more than two decades, the Stamford Arts & Culture grant has “provided Stamford-based arts and cultural organizations with funding to pioneer special projects within the city,” the release stated. “Mayor Simmons continues to support the growth of arts and culture in Stamford, and this year, the City of Stamford committed $191,500 in grant funding for projects by Stamford-based arts organizations or groups backed by a Stamford-based non-profit.”
