Synchrony Staff, City’s Parks and Recreation Department Collaborate on Beach Cleanups
Efforts Follow Company’s $100,000 Commitment to new Parks Partnership
STAMFORD — On Monday, August 5, dozens of Synchrony Financial employees and interns gathered with city officials to celebrate a $100,000 investment for the Stamford Parks Community Partnership. They also set out to clean up nearby public spaces, including Cove Island Park, Cummings Park, and West Beach.
“We are grateful to Synchrony and the Synchrony Foundation for this generous grant of $100,000 to the Stamford Parks Community Partnership, which will benefit our city’s parks and green spaces,” Mayor Caroline Simmons said in a press release. “The City of Stamford is fortunate to be home to some of the leading corporations in the country and their partnership and commitment to investing in our community is invaluable as we look to equitably enhance funding for parks across our city.”
The donation from Synchrony, a leading financial services company headquartered in Stamford, will help ensure that the collaboration between the city and SPCP can lead to the enhancement and protection of public parks and open spaces throughout Stamford.
As part of the city’s Parks Strategic Plan, the Simmons Administration established the parks partnership in May 2024 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to obtain private funding to support citywide park initiatives. This includes strengthening connections between the city, local businesses, and Stamford residents while improving parks and recreational spaces.
“We thank Mayor Simmons and the city for their leadership to enhance public parks for families across Stamford to enjoy,” DJ Casto, Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Synchrony, said. “We remain committed to investing our time and talent to ensure Stamford continues to thrive.”
According to an edition of the Mayor’s newsletter sent after the SPCP announcement in May, there are already “several corporate commitments, including from Wellbuilt Company, Henkel, Philip Morris International, and the Ashforth Company, as well as a dollar for dollar match up to $100,000 commitment from Dalio Education.”
